Brentwood has its origins as an European settlement in the mid to late 18th century. Early Native Americans of Mississippian culture lived in this area from around the 15th to 16th century approximately before leaving. It is not known what caused them to leave. The Mississippian inhabitants were followed by the Cherokee Indians who used much of Middle Tennessee, including what is now Brentwood, for hunting. The Native Americans and white settlers clashed violently and frequently until the sheer number of white settlers moving into the area overpowered them.
If you’re visiting the Brentwood area, make sure to stop by the stunning Radnor Lake State Park. Dubbed Tennessee’s first State Natural Area, the Park spans 1,400+ acres. The Radnor Lake is a protected area (and 85 acres!) Visitors can expect to see an abundance of wildlife varying on the season. At Radnor you can for sure catch various species of owls and turkeys enjoying the landscape. There are 7.75 miles of hiker-only trails at this State Park. If you want to run or bring your pet, you’ll have to stick to The Otter Creek Road Trail.
