Origins of Muletown

On November 16th, 1807, the City of Columbia, Tennessee was officially established. Columbia has the nickname ‘Muletown’ for the reason that back in the day mules were bred and trained here for the military during World War I. A massive mule auction, known as ‘Mule Day’, took place on the downtown square every year and to this day it’s still an important event.

Marcy Jo’s Muletown is a hands-down local restaurant favorite. The cinnamon buns are famous and rightfully so. There’s also the tasty Coca-Cola cake and all the handmade bread baked fresh daily in their bakery that makes Marcy Jo’s so popular. Open all week 7 AM- 2 PM, you need to stop by Marcy Jo’s Muletown if you’re in Columbia for some hot coffee and soul-warming treats.
